About maryleekitchen

At Mary Lee Kitchen, we believe that what we eat matters. Each of us has the right to know what is in our food. Over the years the food industry has negatively impacted our health and well being. This has caused the rise of food allergies, food sensitivities, rise in child obesity- which are just a few of the harmful side effects of the food manufactures created. It is time for us to implement change. I am a food artisan that creates allergy free products that are made in a sustainable way. Through my own experience with rare food allergies, I have learned how to cook in a way that is inclusive for all diets. Through food education, recipes, and products I support the gathering of all people around the kitchen table.

I get so much lettuce in my CSA box during the summer months,  it’s like they think I’m a rabbit. I usually  search through various cookbooks or online blogs for new recipes to use with my lettuce, and then it’s time to make the dressing! Dressings can be time consuming and sometimes I feel like they are a waste of food because lot of recipes only use a small portion of an onion or shallot. Which means  I’m left with [...]

I’m a member of a Facebook group for people who have corn allergies. In the group, people pose questions about products that they think might contain corn, pictures of their skin reactions to corn, etc. I once posted a question to the group asking about using Vitamin E oil on my skin and if it comes from corn since I was getting bumps around my eyes and wasn’t sure why. The unanimous answer was that it usually doesn’t come from [...]

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/maryleekitchen/mary-lee-kitchen-welcome-to-the-table?ref=nav_search I used to have the ability to walk into any store and purchase any snack, that freedom was pulled out from under me when I was diagnosed with food allergies. This change sparked a shift in how I understand the food I consumed and required more intentional research and planning if I wanted to stay healthy. This process was mentally exhausting, physically tiring, and often times isolating. And that’s why I created Mary Lee Kitchen. I wanted [...]

It’s Cinco de Mayo and I am going to discuss corn allergies!? It’s hard for me to believe it too! Growing up in Texas this was a highly celebrated day. In high school we would bring Mexican inspired dishes to our Spanish class. In college we would go out for margaritas, and after college we would celebrate by going to Fiesta. But Mexican food has a lot of corn and a lot of wheat, so when you’re allergic or sensitive [...]

This post is made possible by a friend of the Mary Lee Kitchen Blog, Caila Diehl Rinker. We hope you enjoy it. - Mary Lee Kitchen Team -- One of my favorite things about my house is the small garden in the front yard. My husband and friends would be quick to tell you that I’m taking credit for their hard work—I’ve been known to kill cacti. Even though I’m not the primary gardener, the rhythms of the garden help [...]

While reading Julia Child’s book Mastering The Art of French Cooking a few years ago, I began to understand the importance of sauces and vinaigrettes and how valuable they are to master, especially in French cuisine. Julia writes that, “sauces are the splendor and glory of French cooking...”(Child, Bertholle, & Beck, 1961, p. 54).This realization became even more meaningful while listening to The Splendid Table, a podcast hosted by Lynne Rosetto Kasper. In the episode titled Isaac Mizrahi: The Key [...]
